The Lord Jesus Is a Warrior

Psalm 110 is often celebrated for its unique statement by King David about one whom David calls “my Lord” (v. 1). Here is the royal king, addressing someone even more royal. The writers of the New Testament clearly make much of this, identifying this greater King as Jesus (see Mark 12:35–37 and Acts 2:33–36). We have it on the best authority, then, that this psalm is about Jesus, and what a strikingly powerful statement it makes about him! “He will shatter kings on the day of his wrath” (Ps. 110:5). “He will shatter chiefs over the wide earth” (v. 6).
